Meta’s announcement today signifies the ultimate shift away from Oculus branding. Those who neglect to transition their Oculus account to a Meta account will forfeit access to all their games and in-app purchases by month’s end.
In an email dispatched to certain Quest users, Meta issued a cautionary notice: Failure to integrate your Oculus account into a Meta account by March 29 will result in the deletion of your account, along with the forfeiture of access to all associated content, including games, DLC, achievements, and store credit.
The decision to retire the Oculus brand aligns with Meta’s broader strategy unveiled in 2021 when Facebook transformed into Meta, aiming to streamline its “brand architecture.” This initiative involved rechristening the Oculus Quest as the Meta Quest line of standalone VR headsets. In June 2022, Meta introduced the option to establish a Meta account, providing Quest owners with a more user-friendly alternative for logging into their headsets, eliminating the previous necessity of a Facebook account, which had been a significant inconvenience for Quest 2 owners at the time.
To facilitate a smooth transition, users can migrate their Oculus account to a Meta account via Meta’s official website. It’s crucial to employ the same email address linked to their Oculus account to ensure seamless transfer of games, store credits, and other user data to their newly-created Meta account.
